About Us

About Our Team

GoServiceDogs includes a small team of experienced industry trainers, with over 30 years of cumulative experience. Our trainers prefer to start with puppy training (10-24 weeks) but have proven to also work with much older dogs. It all depends on the need. Through years of experience, our trainers have learned the latest training techniques and and have also offered socialization and obedience skills in tandem with disability services.

Certified Trainer

The mandate at Go Service Dog is to include anyone with a developmental or physical disability who could benefit from a service dog regardless of a person’s age.

40+ dogs trained

Go Service Dog works with privately-owned dogs with a focus of training your dog to be a future service dog. A dog for every need exists. We work with people of all ages with a disability and the goal is to ensure a perfect match whether this is your dog or a dog that we find for you.

Training Standards

Our Training Standards

Go Service Dogs is a “for profit organization” and supports future Service Dog Standards for the Province of Ontario. These regulations will ensure approved trainers and future service dogs meet minimum standards of training prior to certification. These standards will address formalized training, certification by approved certifying bodies, and renewable ID documents (similar to a driver’s license).

Can Go Service Dog certify my dog?

Yes, Go Service Dog will adhere to rules and regulations established in the Province of Ontario.

The primary purpose of certification is to ensure that your dogs are fully trained as a service dog and their handlers understand how to lead their Service Dog through everyday situations, such as going to a shop, a park, a hospital, a care home or any other public places.

Is there a difference between a service and companion dog?

Yes, a service dog has full public access identified by a working jacket and is supported with your identification card. A companion dog would provide comfort to a person in their home and not have public access or be protected by legislation.

Please know we mainly deal with service dog training at the moment.

What are my legal rights?

Any person with a diagnosed disability has the right to enter any public facility with their certified service dog. A person with a disability is protected against discrimination under the Canadian Human Rights Act passed in 1985 and the Ontario Disability Act. Go Service Dog will provide you with a letter of certification as well as a photo ID card for your jacket.

How is “service animal” defined

Service animals are defined as dogs that are individually trained to perform work or tasks for people with disabilities. Examples of such work or tasks include guiding people who are blind, alerting people who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, reminding a person with mental illness to take prescribed medications, calming a person with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) during an anxiety attack, or performing other duties. Service animals are working animals, not pets.

Client Feedback

What our customers say

“Excellent client service combined with his strong training skills is foremost”

I can’t say enough about this organization and I would always recommend Go Service Dog to those planning to privately train a service dog!"

    Cathy B

Once Finn completed his training, Jim met and worked with both of us a team for a period of time. We passed the public access test and today I have Finn with me. I continue to specialize in the photography field and Finn joins me in public. I recommend Jim should you be looking for someone to train your dog as a service dog.
